Long Term Substitute Special Education Teacher

Special Education Teacher Role

This position reports to the Building Principal and Special Education Division. The Special Education Teacher develops and provides specialized instruction to meet the unique needs of all students with disabilities. This position requires a high degree of adaptability, attention to diversity and equitable outcomes.

Special Education Teacher Expectations

  • Provides research-based specialized instruction to address the instructional goals and objectives contained within each student’s IEP;
  • Assesses student progress and determines the need for additional reinforcement or adjustments to instructional techniques;
  • Employs various teaching techniques, methods and principles of learning to enable students to meet their IEP goals;
  • Develops and implements annual Individualized Educational Program (IEP) plans for students;
  • Creates a positive learning experience with emphasis in individualized instruction using appropriate sources;
  • Provides direction, supervision and evaluation of educational paraprofessionals as directed;
  • Employs and implements a classroom structure and consistency to encourage student responsibility, cooperation and mutual respect consistent with district policies and procedures;

Secondary Math Teacher

Math Teacher Role

The SCSD is seeking a math teacher that will get all students excited about Math. The Math Teacher is expected to assist students in understanding and applying Math to real-life situations. Math Teacher will ensure all students should be engaged in the lesson and persevering toward solving high level tasks in Math. The Math Teacher will have knowledge of urban schools and urban communities. This position requires a high degree of problem-solving, resilience and ingenuity.

Math Teacher Expectations

  • Knowledge of Next generation and Common Core Standards in Math, Regents exams and differentiated instructional strategies. Also experience with lesson planning and high leverage practices;
  • Effective in classroom management, parent communication, differentiated instruction;
  • Ability to use technology including GSuite and smartboard;
  • Able to engage students in the math curriculum toward mastery of the standards;
  • Ability to craft detailed lesson plans showing thoughtfulness into various activities to engage the students. These should result in increased student achievement.
  • Teach students how to use learning to resolve real-world problems.

Lifeguard

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:  This position involves responsibility for patrolling over swimmers in a public pool or public beach.  The incumbent must exercise sound judgment in emergencies.  An error in judgment might result in loss of life.  Direct supervision is received from a higher level supervisor.  Does related duties as required.

 

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:

 

  • Stands watch or patrols swimmers in a public pool or beach and assists them when they are in difficulty;
  • Applies first aide, advanced lifesaving techniques and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) when necessary;
  • Instructs beginners in swimming;
  • Keeps the beach or pool area free of glass and other debris;
  • Performs other routine duties such as repairing equipment;
  • Maintains order and enforces compliance with beach rules;
  • Performs a variety of related duties as required.

 

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:  Good knowledge of first aid, advanced life saving and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) techniques; ability to swim well; ability to deal with the public and to secure cooperation; ability to keep records and to make simple reports and arithmetic computations; good observation; mental alertness.

Swim Support Assistant

Athletic Trainer

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:  Under the supervision of the Director of Athletics, the Athletic Trainer will be responsible for coordinating wellness opportunities for students and staff, including but not limited to; AED, CPR & First Aid training for staff and students, organizing and coordinating wellness fairs, classes and events for staff, students and the community before, during and after the school day.  The Athletic Trainer will also serve as the certified athletic trainer for the district athletic programs.  Additional responsibilities include communicating with coaches regarding player injury status and practice limitations; assisting coaches with preparation of incident reports; maintaining inventory of medical supplies. Does related work as required or as assigned by the Director of Athletics. 

 

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:

Coordinate district wellness opportunities for students and staff, including but not limited to:

  • AED, CPR and First Aid training for staff, and students;
  • Organizing wellness fairs classes, classes and events for staff, students and the community both before and after the school day;

Responsible for knowing the day to day athletic facilities calendar;

Maintain equipment and medical inventories, supplies, and related items;

Prepare and maintain first aid kits for use by coaches of all teams;

Assist coaches with preparation of incident reports;

Assist the Director of Athletics and/or coaches with any pre or post game needs; health and wellness needs of scholar athletes

Assist with securing facility when contests are complete;

Administer post-injury and post-operative rehabilitation protocols for injured student athletes;

Communicate with coaches regarding player injury status and practice limitations, and communicate with staff on return to school protocols for injured student-athletes;

Coordinate ambulance or medical personnel if necessary;

Assist in developing and/or revising appropriate policies, handbooks, and other athletic/wellness communications; and

Does related work as required or assigned by the Director of Athletics.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:

Comprehensive knowledge of athletic training skills;

Working knowledge of health/wellness as well as the inter-workings of interscholastic athletics;

Ability to provide first aid, CPR and AED training;

Ability to maintain a variety of records and reports accurately and neatly;

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others;

Ability to understand and follow written and oral directions;

Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing;

Strong organizational skills;

Initiative and resourcefulness;

Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

Minimum - $55,000/year (Commensurate w/ exp.)
