Distinguishing Features of the Class Groundsworker Role:
This position involves responsibility for performing a variety of routine, semi-skilled maintenance tasks in connection with the upkeep of grounds around a particular building or park. The work is performed under general supervision of a superior who outlines policy, with leeway allowed for performing tasks. Direct supervision may be exercised over one or more subordinate laborers. Does related work as required. This position requires a high degree of collaboration, communication and creativity in developing colorful landscaping that attracts our diverse community.
Typical Work Activities and Groundsworker Expectations:
- Mows lawns and cares for flower beds, walks and drives;
- Trims hedges, trees and shrubs;
- Rake leaves;
- Shovels snow;
- Cleans gutters and catch basins;
- Removes ashes and tends fires;
- Performs a variety of grounds maintenance tasks.
Full Performance Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics and Key Qualities of Groundsworker:
- Working knowledge of the accepted procedures and practices of grounds maintenance work;
- Ability to lay out work for subordinates;
- Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
