Assignment: Districtwide Diversion Program
Job Description
Description of Role:
This position exists in the Schenectady City School District and involves the responsibility for implementing School Based Diversion Program services within their assigned school(s). The Diversion program provides therapeutic support services to students who are serving long term suspensions in grades 6-12. The goal of the program is to ensure students have support they need, reduce time on suspension, and prevent recidivism. This is a district wide position that reports to the Assistant Superintendent of Student Support Services. Diversion clinicians will be assigned to work primarily in specific school(s) to support their long term suspension programs, but may be required to support in other locations if the need arises.
Role Responsibilities:
Comprehensive intake for students and families that includes evidence based behavioral health screening.
Providing evidence-based clinical intervention to students
Engage families in the Diversion Process
Formulate treatment plan in collaboration with parent, student and home school team
Facilitate students Emergency Response Team Meetings-maintaining appropriate documentation
Make referrals as needed for student to resources both in district and to community based providers
Assist in creating a transition plan for student to return to home school following diversion
Maintain progress monitoring and reporting to assess impact of the Diversion program
Conduct crisis assessments as needed
Participate in and facilitate restorative practices/circles with students
Assist families in accessing services and appointments both within the district and community
Assist in the coordination of scheduling and transportation for students to and from the program.
Qualifications:
School Social Worker or School Counselor with LMHC or specialized experience in providing Mental Health Services
In district applicants must be eligible for transfer per contract
This position is a provisional civil service appointment and applicant must meet civil service requirements including residency in Schenectady County or one of the contiguous counties. Successful candidates are required to take civil service exam when offered.
