The Schenectady City School District (SCSD) is in a transformational phase, actively reshaping the district and its schools. A significant level of local, state, and federal attention and investment in the Schenectady City Schools has characterized the last few years providing an incredible opportunity to ensure that all of its students graduate prepared to succeed in college or career. Currently, the Schenectady City School District is seeking highly competent, motivated, dedicated and fully engaged individuals to accept leadership roles throughout the district's schools and Central Office to serve the academic, emotional and physical needs of approximately 10,000 students through the essential elements of the district’s Strategic Plan. The Superintendent is leading a talented and committed leadership team with the aim of moving SCSD toward world-class status and preparing all students for success.
The Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning establishes the vision and mission of the Office of Teaching and Learning and provides leadership for the development, implementation, and evaluation of the district’s teaching and learning program, to ensure high quality education and student achievement. This includes the development and implementation of curriculum and instructional programming, ensuring budget and resource alignment, and supporting the organization and planning for district wide assessments as well as the analysis of data and staff development for building use of data in compliance with pertinent state and federal laws, Board of Education policies and instructions from the Superintendent.
Specifically, the Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning will lead a team of administrators to perform the following duties and all other responsibilities as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools and his/her designee:

Coordinates all areas of elementary and secondary instruction, ensuring that district-wide curriculum is vertically and horizontally aligned and that such curriculum is aligned to New York’s Next Generations learning standards;

Coordinates the development of district policies, regulations and procedures, as related to the instructional programs;

Provides guidance and support to teachers and administrators on instructional strategies and best practices;.

Works with appropriate staff to review curriculum and instructional materials with an equity lens to ensure that district goals on equity, diversity and inclusion are adhered to;
-
Collaborates with the Office of Human Resources, building level principals, curriculum directors, and instructional coaches relative to the implementation of professional development activities and in-service programs, including Superintendent’s Conference Days and other professional development opportunities;

Prepares reports that are submitted to the Board of Education, which outline the recommendation for textbook adoption and provides continuous academic updates to the board at their regularly scheduled board meetings;

Coordinates all curriculum writing projects;

Recommends curriculum and instructional priorities and programs to the Superintendent of Schools and the board of education;Collaborates with the Executive Leadership Team and their respective offices to ensure that all learners including students with disabilities and English language learners receive appropriate supports and programming;

Assists the Office of Human Resources in recruiting, hiring and providing continuous training to ensure the district has highly effective teachers.

Supervises and evaluates staff under their purview, including Directors and Assistant Directors and office support staff;

Reviews, recommends and approves staff conferences for teachers and administrators; .

Collaborates with BOCES staff relative to new staff development programs and initiatives that are offered and made available to staff;

Prepares curriculum bulletins, guides, courses of study and pamphlets for the purpose of disseminating information related to the instructional program;
-
Plans and prepares for meetings with grade-level leaders, departmental meetings and faculty meetings;
-
Collaborates with colleges and universities relative to the placement and supervision of student teachers and student observers.

Overseas teacher mentoring, new teacher orientation, and new teacher seminars;
-
Attends all Board of Education and cabinet meetings; providing assistance in the preparation and execution of these meetings to the superintendent.
