DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:
This position involves responsibility for overseeing the maintenance of a central supply room. Stock handling includes a
variety of office, custodial and related supply items of considerable value. The work is performed under general
supervision with the incumbent responsible for the application of proper stock-keeping methods and the maintenance of
accurate and complete records. Supervision may be exercised over the work of subordinate employees engaged in
delivery of supplies. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES (Illustrative only):
• Maintains a running inventory of housekeeping and office supplies used by the department;
• Receives and stores materials, supplies and small equipment;
• Checks quantity and quality of stock received against purchase orders or requisitions to determine that they
conform to orders or specifications;
• Maintains equipment inventories and is responsible for arranging for the repair and/or replacement of equipment;
• Develops efficient stores methods in allocation of supplies and equipment to proper storage place assignments;
• May schedule contractual services for equipment maintenance at various intervals or as needed;
• May prepare purchase orders for housekeeping and office supplies and equipment or materials for minor building
repairs, etc.;
• Maintains a variety of control records on supplies received and issued and prepares reports as required;
• Prepares and packs goods for shipping and delivery and makes transportation arrangements;
• May operate forklift, pallet jack and other similar equipment;
• May maintain a variety of account records relative to expenditures and disbursements for supplies and equipment;
• Assists with yearly departmental budget requests;
• May type simple records and reports not requiring the service of a skilled typist;
• Assists staff members in annual supply requisition preparation;
• Performs a variety of related clerical, stock keeping, and routine building tasks.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:
Good knowledge of methods and practices used in receiving, storing, maintaining and issuing supplies and equipment;
working knowledge of inventory record keeping; working knowledge of requisition and purchasing procedures; ability to
write legible; ability to keep simple records; ability to make simple arithmetical computations; clerical aptitude.
