Job Description

Job Title: Academic Recovery Teacher

Work Hours: 11:00 AM – 6:00 PM

Location: Keane Elementary School

Reports To: Principal and Assistant Principals

Job Summary:

Keane Elementary School is seeking a dedicated and innovative Academic Recovery Teacher to support students with chronic absenteeism in making academic progress and reconnecting with their learning. Working closely with classroom teachers and support staff, the Academic Recovery Teacher will provide targeted instruction, facilitate assignment completion, and help remove academic barriers for students who are behind due to frequent absences. The role also includes collaborating with families and promoting a culture of care and academic responsibility.

Key Responsibilities:

Student Support and Instruction (11:00 AM – 3:30 PM):

? Provide small group or one-on-one academic support to students who have experienced chronic absenteeism.

? Deliver direct instruction, reteaching, and guided practice aligned with classroom learning goals.

? Help students complete missed assignments and assessments.

? Maintain a calm, supportive, and encouraging learning environment tailored to individual student needs.

? Use formative data to inform instruction and progress monitoring.

? Collaborate with intervention teams and related service providers to align supports.

 

Collaboration and Planning (3:30 PM – 6:00 PM):

? Work closely with classroom teachers to understand curriculum pacing, expectations, and upcoming assignments.

? Communicate regularly with teachers to ensure consistency and alignment of academic supports.

? Participate in school team meetings (e.g., attendance team, MTSS, IEP meetings) when applicable.

? Maintain accurate records of student progress and completed work.

? Support students during after-school hours for additional tutoring or academic enrichment.

? Partner with families to encourage school to home practice

This is a temporary position for the 2025-2026 school year.

Compensation: Based on district salary schedule and experience. Includes benefits as applicable for certified staff.

Job Qualifications

Qualifications:

? Valid state teaching certification (Elementary Education or applicable area required).

? Experience working with students with varying academic needs and/or attendance challenges.

? Strong understanding of instructional scaffolding and differentiated support.

? Effective communication and collaboration skills with both children and adults.

? Demonstrated commitment to equity, student well-being, and culturally responsive teaching.

? Flexibility, problem-solving skills, and a growth mindset.

Preferred Qualifications:

? Experience working in a Title I school or with students who face barriers to consistent attendance.

? Familiarity with restorative practices and trauma-informed approaches.
